What is Socotra and where is it located?
Socotra (also spelled Soqotra) is an archipelago of four islands in the Indian Ocean, located approximately 380 kilometers (240 miles) off the coast of Yemen. The largest island, also called Socotra, is known for its unique biodiversity and otherworldly landscapes.
It is politically part of Yemen and has been recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2008 due to its exceptional universal value and high number of endemic species found nowhere else on Earth.
Is Socotra safe to visit?
Yes, Socotra is generally considered safe for tourists. Despite Yemen's ongoing conflicts on the mainland, Socotra has remained peaceful and isolated from the troubles. The island is geographically distant from conflict areas and maintains a calm, welcoming atmosphere.
Local communities are hospitable and crime rates are extremely low. However, as with any travel destination, we recommend following standard safety precautions and listening to your guides' advice.

How do I get to Socotra?
Currently, the only way to reach Socotra is by air. Flights operate from Abu Dhabi (UAE) to Socotra's main airport in Hadibu. The flight takes approximately 2.5 hours.

- Western Union
A 30% deposit is required to confirm your booking, with the balance due 30 days before arrival.
What is your cancellation policy?
Our cancellation policy is designed to be fair:
- 60+ days before: Full refund minus $100 admin fee
- 45-60 days: 70% refund
- 30-44 days: 50% refund
- 15-29 days: 25% refund
- Less than 15 days: No refund
If we cancel due to circumstances beyond our control, you receive a full refund or the option to reschedule.

Travel Requirements
Do I need a visa to visit Socotra?
Yes, all foreign visitors require a visa to enter Socotra. As part of our service, we assist with the visa application process. We provide all necessary documentation and guidance.
You should apply for your visa at least 45 days before your planned travel date. The visa is typically valid for 30 days.
What travel documents do I need?
Required documents include:
- Valid passport (minimum 6 months validity)
- Yemeni visa
- Return flight ticket
- Travel insurance certificate
- Hotel/tour booking confirmation
We provide you with all necessary letters and confirmations for your visa application.
Are there any vaccination requirements?
There are no mandatory vaccinations for Socotra, but we recommend being up-to-date on routine vaccines (MMR, DPT, flu). Additionally, consider:
- Hepatitis A and B
- Typhoid
- Tetanus
Consult your doctor or a travel medicine specialist 4-6 weeks before your trip.
Safety & Health
Is travel insurance required?
Yes, comprehensive travel insurance is mandatory for all our tours. Your policy should include:

We require proof of insurance before your arrival.
What medical facilities are available on Socotra?
Socotra has a main hospital in Hadibu and several smaller clinics. However, medical facilities are basic compared to Western standards. For serious medical emergencies, evacuation to the UAE may be necessary.
We carry comprehensive first aid kits on all tours and our guides are trained in first aid. We also maintain satellite communication for emergencies in remote areas.
Are there any dangerous animals on Socotra?
Socotra has very few dangerous animals. There are no poisonous snakes or large predators. The main creatures to be aware of are:
- Scorpions (rare, and not deadly)
- Some spider species (generally harmless)
- Sea urchins while snorkeling (easily avoidable)
Basic precautions like shaking out shoes and being careful when moving rocks are sufficient.

Activities
What is the best time of year to visit Socotra?
The best time to visit Socotra is during the cooler months from October to April. During this period:
- Temperatures are comfortable (25-30°C / 77-86°F)
- Less humidity
- Ideal for hiking and camping
- Better sea conditions for boat trips
- Possible to see Dragon's Blood Tree flowering (March-April)
May to September is hotter and more humid, with occasional monsoon rains, but tours are still possible.
Do I need to be physically fit to visit Socotra?
Fitness requirements depend on your chosen activities:
- Basic tours: Moderate fitness - some walking on uneven terrain
- Hiking tours: Good fitness - several hours of walking daily
- Adventure tours: High fitness - challenging treks and activities
